Holland is dikes and polders, windmills, and of course tulips. This week, a photo impression of the bulb region, the Beemster polder and the windmills of Kinderdijk. Both Kinderdijk and the Beemsterpolder are Unesco world heritage sites.
The area flooded several times, the last time in 1675. After the 1675 flood the dikes were improved, and they have held ever since. The monument in the picture is placed in 1975 to commemorate 300 years of dry feet.

Windmill in the fog. Not in Kinderdijk this time, but near my home.
